ASH welcomes new Vidi Laureate Danielle van den Heuvel
Dr Danielle van den Heuvel (Early Modern History) has been awarded a prestigious Vidi grant from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for research that she will carry out at the UvA.
The Vidi gives researchers who have already spent several years doing postdoctoral research the opportunity to develop their own innovative lines of research and set up a dedicated research group.
This year a total of 572 researchers applied for a Vidi grant from NWO, of which 87 were successful. Each researcher will receive up to €800,000.
Women on the street
Many historians believe that women disappeared from life on the street between 1600 and 1850. In this project, Van den Heuvel will examine whether this is really the case, and look at the factors that influenced women's access to public spaces in two different cities: Amsterdam and Edo (Japan).
