Dr Justyna Wubs-Mrozewicz (Medieval History) has been awarded a prestigious Vidi grant from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for her project 'Managing multi-level conflicts in commercial cities in northern Europe (c. 1350-1570).'

The Vidi gives researchers who have already spent several years doing postdoctoral research the opportunity to develop their own innovative lines of research and set up a dedicated research group.

This year a total of 590 researchers applied for a Vidi grant from NWO, of which 89 were successful. Each researcher will receive up to €800,000.

Project description

Managing multi-level conflicts in commercial cities in Northern Europe (C. 1350-1570)

We all want to know how to end conflicts, but the current challenge is to be able to manage them effectively. In this project, ‘conflict managers’ in premodern commercial cities in northern Europe open a new door to understanding how complex conflicts were dealt with in the past.
