Refusing to be Jewish for the Nazis

The central question of Petra van den Boomgaard's research is how it was possible for some Jews to escape deportation by evading racial regulations in the occupied Netherlands, especially given the context of the meticulous Dutch population register. Her study shows that a small group of Jews (2%, at least 2659 people) were able to escape deportation and subsequently survive; they managed to do this through the use of article 3 in the registration regulation VO 6/41, which opened up the possibility to revise the Jewish status that was administered in 1941.
