On 10 June Kennislink published an article about Guus Verhaar's PhD research on Glass sickness, its detection, prevention and treatment.
Guus Verhaar is a PhD student at the Conservation Department. His project is a collaboration between the Rijksmuseum, the UvA (faculty of Humanities), and the research centre of the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency. The research focuses on the chemical degradation of vessel glass, within a historic context of glassmaking. This will result in a dissertation covering historic glassmaking techniques, chemical characteristics of glass and in-depth studies of vessel glass deterioration. Conservation techniques for crizzled glass will also be studied.
