I was raised in Brisbane, Australia, where I studied arts and law at the University of Queensland. I then moved to England and completed an MPhil and a PhD at the University of Cambridge. I joined the UvA in September 2016. 

As the English Department's Assistant Professor in Literary and Cultural History, I teach across a wide range of courses in the undergraduate curriculum. My particular area of responsibility is the theory component of the degree, but I also regularly teach medieval/early modern and nineteenth-century survey courses. My undergraduate specialist elective is on modernism and at master's level I run a course on realism.  

My primary interests are in theory and literary form. I welcome enquiries about thesis supervision in those areas, particularly where the textual interest is in realism or modernism.

On the administrative side, I serve as a tutor assisting students with their academic pathway through the BA. I am also the English Department's delegate to the Exam Board.

In 2024-25, I am the co-ordinator of Contested Realities: Debating the Novel (MA). I am also teaching on the BA's advanced theory course Debates in English Studies.
