Joost Jonker (*1955) studeerde economische en sociale geschiedenis aan de VU Amsterdam. Hij werkte vervolgens bij het Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis (Den Haag) en Stratagem Strategic Research BV (Amsterdam en Leiden). In 1997 begon hij als contractonderzoeker bij de Universiteit Utrecht en twee jaar later ook als docent bij de afdeling Economische en Sociale Geschiedenis. Sinds 2008 is hij hoofddocent en sinds januari 2012 NEHA hoogleraar Bedrijfsgeschiedenis aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Zijn onderzoeksterrein heeft zich geleidelijk uitgebreid en omvat nu de
 financi ë le- en bedrijfsgeschiedenis vanaf de zestiende eeuw tot heden.
Joost Jonker (*1955) read economic and social history at the Free University Amsterdam. He worked as an editor at Huygens ING in The Hague and as a consultant and editor at Stratagem Strategic Research. In 1997 he moved to Utrecht University, first as a research fellow and two years later also as lecturer in Economic and Social History. Since January 2012 he combines this with the NEHA Professorship in Business History at the University of Amsterdam. His research interests have gradually widened from 20th century banking to embrace business and financial history from the 16th century to the present.
