    Sumihiro read Western Art History as a BA and MA student at the Tokyo University of the Arts, followed by his second MA in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. In 2017, he joined the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies (ASH) as a PhD candidate, specialising in the art of the later Middle Ages, with particular interests in Early Netherlandish painting and its influence upon German painters in the fifteenth century.
