Remco Raben houdt zich bezig met Aziatische, mondiale en koloniale geschiedenis. Zijn huidige onderzoek richt zich op de geschiedenis van Indonesie in de twintigste eeuw, en de postkoloniale cultuur van Nederland.
Hij was eerder werkzaam bij de universiteit Leiden en het Nederlands Instituut voor Oorlogsdocumentatie en is nu tevens werkzaam bij de Universiteit Utrecht.
