Jan Rock (1980) is Assistant Professor in modern Dutch literature and culture at the University of Amsterdam. He teaches both at BA and MA levels. As a researcher in cultural history, he is affiliated with the Study Platform on Interlocking Nationalisms (SPIN). His research activities aim at an ecompassing view of the role of reading practices in cultural nationalism in the Low Countries.
He is assistant-editor of the Encyclopedia of Romantic Nationalism in Europe (ed. Joep Leerssen, 2016; published in print by Amsterdam University Press) and member of the editorial board of Nederlandse Letterkunde. His prize winning PhD thesis will be published as Papieren monumenten. Filologie en nationalisme in de Lage Landen, 1591-1863 (Vantilt).
