Urban life on the move: gender and mobility in early modern Amsterdam focuses on movement and gendered street use in Amsterdam in the long eighteenth century (1650-1795). Via the central question 'who accessed the street, and how', Bob Pierik investigates how urban inhabitants used, claimed, and experienced space in practice.

The advisory board was impressed by the very innovative and thorough use of the source material to answer the main question(s), both through qualitative and quanitative analyses. Notarial acts form the main source material, but to these written sources innovative digital spatial analyses are added and clearly presented in maps, graphs and charts, resulting in an exemplary study that should be of interest to urban historians, gender historians, and those more generally intersted in digital humanities alike.
