Serena Ferente joined the UvA in 2021 as Professor of Medieval History. She was previously Reader in Medieval and Renaissance History and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies at King's College London.
Having studied in Pisa and Paris, she earned her PhD from the European University Institute (2007). She was the PI of a British Academy project on Cultures of Voting in Pre-Modern Europe, and most recently directed a large project on The body and political thought in Europe and East Asia (ca. 1150-1650) funded by the Turin Humanities Programme. She has held fellowships and visiting appointments, including at NIAS, the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Kyoto, and Harvard University's Villa I Tatti.
She will be sharing directorial duties with Moritz Föllmer
